“To be honest, I had no idea what to expect when I pressed play and I’m still none the wiser having listened to the French extreme music collective who hide behind a wall of anonymity. Their music is surreal, full of angular, jagged edges, electronica, and blast beats, there is an underlying frenetic feel which is infectious; the heart rate elevates throughout the dramatic and bemusing structures, the polyphonic writing and random time signatures throwing all convention aside.”

Die zumeist mit Luzifer und seiner Auflehnung gegen Gott assoziierte Phrase „non serviam“ wird von vielen Künstler*innen als Ausdruck ultimativen Rebellentums verwendet. Kaum eine Band verkörpert diesen Kampfbegriff der Selbstbestimmung jedoch auf so vielschichtige Weise wie die gleichnamige Musikgruppe aus Frankreich. Nicht nur versteht sich das ehemalige Soloprojekt eines anonymen Multi-Instrumentalisten als anarchistisch, anti-moralisch und anti-religiös, auch musikalisch lassen NON SERVIAM sich keinerlei Regeln auferlegen. Hinter der prunkvollen Barock-Ästhetik ihres 69 Minuten langen Albums „Le Cœur Bat“ verbirgt sich ein wahnwitziger Mix aus Black Metal, Doom Metal, Crust Punk, Industrial, Trip-Hop und Shoegaze, der selbst vor den Grenzen des guten Geschmacks keinen Halt macht.

(code666) Vanno oltre il noise, l’elettronica o qualsivoglia modernità i francesi Non Serviam, entità fuoriuscita da stati di instabilità mentale agli inizi del decennio scorso come progetto solista, poi cresciuta, con vari musicisti coinvolti, tuttavia ancora avvolta nel più fitto mistero. Elettronica e rumore. Chitarre e ritmi. Drum machine forsennata. Suoni e melodie malate. Tra Godflesh e Prodigy, tra digitale e umano, tra sovrannaturale ed abominio. Maledettamente teatrali. Voci di ogni tipo: maschili, femminili, demoniache, sintetiche. Strumenti fisici o elettronici di ogni sorta, compresi clavicembalo, spinette e organi. Un viaggio atmosferico suggestivo, un impatto sonoro devastante, un’oscurità avvolgente. Musica convulsiva. Musica nervosa. Suoni instabili. Emerge synth wave, black metal, dark rock, electro wave, industrial spinto alla follia, folk violentato in una assurdità lasciva con una decadenza circense. Brani che durano dai due ai venticinque minuti, con l’eccesso di una cover industrial black metal estremo di “Inno Individualista”, il pezzo folk anarchico italiano dell’inizio del secolo scorso. Musica ai confini della musica. Violenza inaudita con iniezioni di poesia brillante. Suoni ai limiti della coerenza. Stabilità mentale brutalmente minata. Un’esperienza auditiva trasudante ansia: pericoloso abbandonarsi a queste sonorità in uno stato mentale cosciente, ancor più pericoloso affrontare l’opera in una condizione di alterazione psichica di origine chimica. Geniale!

If you don’t know, you’re going to know that Non Serviam is one of the most creative groups to come out of the underground in a very long time. This group defies sound and creates music that has no boundaries! As I listen to their music I get chills because their music gets deeper under my skin and travels to unknown parts of my soul! Their new EP Work comes out on May 1st via Trepanation Recordings and today we are premiering their song “Se Rapprocher de l’Emploi” below. To me, Non Serviam represents the freedom and unity that we should all have in our lives especially when it comes to creativity or humanity itself! Their album Le Cœur Bat comes out on April 23rd via Code666 and can be ordered HERE! I send nothing but love and honor to Non Serviam for manifesting sonics with the power to FREE MINDS!
